I’m Kate, an editor for the Family section at The Atlantic. I edit and write stories about families, parenting, relationships, friendships, cultural trends, and more. I love pieces that explore how people relate to one another and that illuminate subtle societal shifts that many may recognize but no one has labeled.

Prior to this I led fact checking for our Culture section, edited film and television reviews, and wrote the Books Briefing newsletter. Before that I worked on our audience team, running social platforms, testing new promotion strategies, and carrying out engagement reporting projects. I also had a brief stint fact checking for our Science, Health, and Technology sections early in the pandemic. I started at The Atlantic in 2019 as a fellow and have since been promoted three times, most recently to senior associate editor. I am a proud organizing member of our union.

I came to The Atlantic from Yale University, where I graduated cum laude with a B.A. in English and Political Science and as a Yale Journalism Scholar; I earned distinction in each major. While there, I was a managing editor for The Yale Daily News Magazine, which was the regional winner and a national finalist for the Society of Professional Journalists’ “Best Student Magazine” award under my tenure. I also interned at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Boston Magazine, the Experiment Publishing, and Bellevue Literary Press.

I currently live in Washington, DC with a little dog called Grace (nickname: Grape!).
